A love of the Isa, a love of tourism, and a new adventure on the water.
Moondarra Cruises is a story that started long before the Thomson Princess drifted into our lives.
We’re Kylie and Brett, and Mount Isa has been home to our family for more than 27 years. We’ve been married for 20 years and raised our two (now adult) daughters here — both proudly born and bred in the Isa.
This place isn’t just where we live. It’s home. The red dirt runs deep in our veins.
Brett’s career has been deeply connected to the mining industry, while Kylie’s passion has always been tourism and showcasing everything that makes the outback special.
For Kylie, that passion led to managing the local visitor information centre at Outback at Isa, where she had the privilege of welcoming visitors to Mount Isa and helping them discover what makes our region so unique.
That passion eventually led us to co-purchase and manage a local caravan park. For years, we poured our energy into creating a welcoming place for travellers, sharing our local knowledge and encouraging visitors to stay a little longer and experience more of the Isa.
Our love for tourism has also taken us on the road.
As Outback QLD Ambassador for Drive Queensland, Kylie has travelled across the country attending caravan and camping shows, proudly promoting everything that is great about Outback Queensland — and, most importantly, our beloved Mount Isa.
Then came the Thomson Princess.
When the opportunity arose to bring the Thomson Princess from the Kinnon Family in Longreach to Lake Moondarra, we saw something special.
We could see the potential to create an experience that would give visitors — and locals — a completely different way to experience the place we love.
We sold our shares in the caravan park and transferred all our passion, enthusiasm and drive into Moondarra Cruises.
It was a leap of faith, but it felt right.
We believe Lake Moondarra is one of Mount Isa’s greatest assets. We believe visitors should have a reason to stay a little longer. We believe some of the best tourism experiences are the ones that make you stop, slow down and appreciate where you are.
